Class Dojo
We will be using a new behavior system this year. Class Dojo is an online positive/negative points program that allows students to track their own behavior by giving themselves points or taking them away. This system will be displayed on the Smart Board daily. Each student will have their own “monster” avatar. Students can earn positive points by: Teamwork, Helping others, participation, hard work, on task and persistence. Negative Points can be earned by: showing disrespect, no homework, being off task, being unprepared or any negative behavior. At the end of the day students will be rewarded for points with sticks, candy, wildcat cash and other incentives. If a student is displaying a negative behavior they will be warned first. If the behavior continues the student will deduct a point from their avatar. If the student then continues to display the behavior, the student will deduct another point and will have a note written home in their planner. Hopefully the behavior will not continue after the previous warnings, but if it does the student will deduct another point and will receive a referral.

Sticks
As mentioned in the previous section, we will be using “sticks” as part of our rewards system. Students will be able to use sticks to buy items from our class store. This store will be open at least once every two weeks for shopping.  The following are ways students can earn “sticks”:
-          Earning 5 or more points on Dojo per day
-          Random acts of kindness
-          Going above and beyond
These are a few ways, there may be others, but those will be communicated on a need to know basis.

Wish List

Ms. Clark’s Additional Classroom Supplies List:
·        “Shoe box size” container (I have found these at the Dollar Tree for $1)
·        Extra pack of white copy paper;
·        A bag of jar candy or individually wrapped candy for AR rewards

·        Items for students to buy at our “Class Store”. (Dollar Tree, Target $1 section, gently used items, etc.) (Things like: toys, games, puzzles, balls, books, individually wrapped snacks, sodas, full size candy bars, etc.)

Welcome!

                                                                                                            August 19, 2013
Dear Parents and Guardians,
It is with great pleasure that I welcome you and your child to my classroom for the 2013-2014 school year!  The fourth grade team has heard many wonderful things about the third grade students and is looking forward to helping each one have a successful fourth grade year.
Many exciting activities are scheduled throughout the year.  Our classes will study and experience Florida history personally when we travel to the oldest city in the United States, St. Augustine.  Throughout the year, students will participate in several creative activities to strengthen writing skills.  In the spring, students participate in a literacy project involving the reading of Walter Farley’s novel, The Black Stallion, and attendance at a special horse performance.  Everyone will continue to enjoy a variety of exciting books with our Accelerated Reader program.  The school year ends with safety patrol nominations and a fun-filled field day.
As for me, this will be my first year teaching and I am excited for this journey to begin.  I graduated with my Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education in May of 2012.  After graduating I took a long term substitute teaching job in August 2012 and worked in that position until February 2013.  In February I was offered a VPK teacher position that I taught until the position ended at the beginning of August.  I have two cats named Kingston and Ferguson.  In my free time I enjoy going on Pinterest, spending time with friends and spoiling all of their children. J
Please check out the class blog by visiting the school website and clicking on “Class Pages”.  There you will find important announcements, learning maps, daily homework assignments, and helpful websites.  You can contact me either by calling the school (528-6030) or emailing me at michelle.clark@levy.k12.fl.us.  If you email me, it goes directly to my cell phone; this is the fastest way to get a hold of me.  Also, I check planners daily so this is a great way to communicate with me.
I look forward to a wonderful year ahead.  I am anxious to get to meet each of you and work together to make this an outstanding year!
                                                                                    Sincerely,
                                                                                    Ms. Clark

Important Things to Remember!
·         We will have snack time at 9:15 a.m. daily.  This is a healthy individual snack that you can bring in each day.  As we transition into our Writing block, students may get their HEALTHY snack that they brought from home out and eat it as we begin Writing.  Healthy snacks to consider are: an apple, granola bar, or crackers.  Each student is responsible for bringing their own snack and it must be HEALTHY.

·         Students are encouraged to bring in a screw top water bottle each day.  Please make sure that it contains water only and is not frozen.  Students should take this bottle home each day to freshen it up.

·         Check the Class Blog for important announcements, daily homework assignments, and other important information.

·         Check planners and get an adult to sign them each night.

·         Read at least 20 minutes and practice multiplication facts daily.

·         Complete homework nightly and return it the next day unless otherwise stated.

Important Information or Dates to Remember

There is a couple of students that have not brought back the "First Day of School" packet.  If you have not returned your "First Day of School" information please return ASAP.
